Mama J’s Rolls

“I’ve made these rolls for almost every holiday get together for years. It’s a recipe I modified combining some things from my bread recipe and a tool recipe in one of my cookbooks.” Mama J

Mama J’s Rolls

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tbsp yeast
  • 3/4 cup canned milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 5-7 cups flour
  1. Pour warm water into mixing bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let stand.

  2. In small bowl combine canned milk, sugar, oil, and salt. Warm mixture up in microwave, being careful not to get it too hot as it will kill the yeast.

  3. Pour milk mixture into mixing bowl with water and yeast.

  4. Add eggs and stir together.

  5. Add about 3 cups flour and turn mixer onto speed 2.

  6. Gradually continue to add flour until dough balls up on the dough hook and no longer sticks to the side of the bowl. Knead approximately 10 to 12 minutes.

  7. Place dough in large greased bowl and let raise until double, about 1 1/2 hours. Punch down and divide dough into thirds.

  8. Roll each third out into a circle to about 1/4 inch thick. Spread with a thin layer of butter.

  9. Cut into pie shapes like a pizza slice. Roll each piece up from the wide end to make a crescent shape, and place on a cookie sheet.

  10. Let raise about 30 minutes or until double. Bake at 375 for about 12 to 15 minutes.
